Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s journey from his native village Satauj to the state’s highest elected office will be showcased in a special programme on Discovery Channel India on Sunday evening.
Announcing the programme, Mann said the special show, based on his life journey “from Satauj to CM”, will be telecast at 7 pm in seven different languages.
Sharing the announcement in Punjabi, the Chief Minister credited the people of Punjab for making his journey possible.
Mann said that the journey could only become possible because of the immense love, respect, encouragement and spirit shown by Punjabis. He also urged people to watch the special programme on Discovery Channel India.
The programme is expected to trace an unusual journey that saw Mann move from rural Punjab to the entertainment industry and subsequently into public life and electoral politics.
Born in Satauj village in Sangrur district, Mann became widely known as a comedian and satirist before entering politics. His performances frequently drew upon Punjab’s everyday social and political life, giving him considerable recognition across the state and among Punjabi audiences abroad.
Mann later entered active politics and was elected to the Lok Sabha from Sangrur in 2014. He retained the parliamentary constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
His political career underwent a major transformation ahead of the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections when the Aam Aadmi Party projected him as its chief ministerial face. The party registered a sweeping victory, winning 92 of Punjab’s 117 Assembly seats.
Mann subsequently took oath as Punjab Chief Minister on March 16, 2022, at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
The Discovery Channel programme will now bring different stages of that journey — from Satauj to entertainment, Parliament and ultimately the Chief Minister’s office — before a wider national audience.
