Filmmaker Nikkhil Advani has shared glimpses from a celebration held ahead of the release of his upcoming period streaming series ‘The Revolutionaries’, which explores the early phase of India’s freedom struggle against British rule.
Advani posted a series of pictures from the gathering on Instagram on Sunday, describing the event as a celebration of the team’s efforts in bringing the ambitious historical series to screen.
In his caption, the filmmaker referred to the “blood, sweat, tears” involved in making the project and expressed hope that more celebrations would follow. He also quoted lyricist Javed Akhtar and referenced the musical duo Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy while describing the mood of the celebration. Advani also said he missed actors and collaborators Emmay and Nikhil Madhok.
Created and directed by Advani, ‘The Revolutionaries’ is based on the book Revolutionaries: The Other Story Of How India Won Its Freedom. The series centres on four freedom fighters — Rash Behari Bose, Pratibha Lahiri, Sachindra Nath Sanyal and Bagha Jatin — and their confrontation with the British Raj.
Inspired by true events, the series portrays revolutionaries who believed armed resistance was essential to ending British rule in India. The story also highlights the sustained efforts of these freedom fighters and their role in developments that eventually led to the British Empire shifting its capital from Kolkata to Delhi.
The series features Bhuvan Bam, Rohit Saraf, Pratibha Ranta, Gurfateh Pirzada and Jason Shah.
Produced by Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani under the Emmay Entertainment banner, the series has been written by Sanjeev Sanyal.
‘The Revolutionaries’ is set to premiere on Prime Video on September 11.
