Former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) General Secretary Pawan Dewan and former Chairman of the Planning Board, SBS Nagar, Satvir Singh Palijikki held a series of meetings with Canadian MPs, MPPs, professionals and members of the Indian diaspora, with discussions focusing on immigration, visas and strengthening India-Canada relations.
Dewan and Palijikki, accompanied by Liberal Party of Canada National Vice-President Hardam Mangat, former Indian Overseas Congress (Canada) President Amarpreet Aulakh and Canadian personalities Arvind Bhardwaj and Gurjeet Sidhu, met Canadian MP Amarjit Gill and MP Sonia Sidhu.
Describing the interactions as fruitful, Dewan and Palijikki said several issues concerning India and Canada were discussed during the meetings. Immigration and visa-related matters were among the key issues raised, along with concerns affecting the Indian diaspora in Canada.
They said the response from MPs Gill and Sidhu was encouraging and expressed hope that the discussions would contribute to closer bilateral relations.
The two leaders also met Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, MPP Hardeep Grewal and MP Iqwinder S. Gaheer. They described the discussions as enlightening, saying a range of issues were deliberated upon during the interactions.
During their visit, Dewan and Palijikki also met Amarjit Gurcha, Gurdeep Jhajj, Jarnail Grewal, Jaspal Gahunia, Pankaj Gupta, Tejwant Singh Saini, CA Jagdeep Banga, Harsh Pabla, Gurcharan Garry Bhaura, Vishal Banda, Sunil Bajaj and Pinta Brar.
They also held one-to-one interactions with transporters, realtors, chartered accountants, advocates and businessmen, discussing professional and community-related concerns.
Dewan said the meetings with Canadian MPs, MPPs, members of the Indian diaspora and professionals had been particularly meaningful.
“The hospitality we received in Canada truly touched our hearts. The openness with which our discussions took place was highly appreciable. We are hopeful that ties between the two nations will grow even stronger in the days to come,” Dewan and Palijikki said.
They expressed gratitude to everyone they met in Canada for the warmth and hospitality extended to them.
