Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday participated in a yoga session organised by the Yoga Federation of Uzbekistan in Tashkent and interacted with participants during the programme.
Modi arrived in Uzbekistan on Saturday for a two-day state visit and was received by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the airport in a special gesture highlighting the close ties between the two countries.
Soon after his arrival, Modi visited the Yangi Uzbekistan Monument along with President Mirziyoyev and laid a wreath there. He said the monument reflected the aspirations and progress of the Uzbek people.
“Upon landing in Tashkent, I went to lay a wreath at the Yangi Uzbekistan Monument with President Mirziyoyev. The Yangi Uzbekistan Monument reflects the aspirations and progress of the Uzbek people. Glad to begin my visit by coming here,” Modi said in a post on X.
The Prime Minister and Mirziyoyev also visited Yangi Uzbekistan Park, where they examined artwork depicting Uzbek culture and history.
Modi was later greeted by a large gathering of members of the Indian community in Tashkent. Describing the diaspora as a “living bridge” between the two countries, he said the community was strengthening the bonds of friendship between India and Uzbekistan.
The Indian community also presented cultural performances featuring a fusion of Indian and Uzbek musical traditions. Modi praised a performance combining the tabla with Uzbekistan’s doira and chang instruments, calling it a reflection of the deep cultural connect between the two countries.
During the interaction, several women from the Indian community also tied rakhis on Modi’s wrist.
Modi’s visit is aimed at further strengthening India-Uzbekistan bilateral relations, with the two-day programme including engagements with the Uzbek leadership and the Indian diaspora.
