Four more Indian nationals were rescued on Saturday from a hydropower project in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, taking the total number of Indians rescued following the devastating flash floods to 88, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
The four rescued nationals were identified as Ripu Kumar, Chaneshwar Narzary, Kripa Shankar and Mohammed Minhajuddin, according to the MEA.
The ministry also said 120 Indian nationals crossed into Nepal from China on Saturday. However, 287 Indian nationals and 128 persons of Indian origin remained missing as of 5 pm.
To assist in identifying mortal remains, a six-member forensic experts team from India is expected to reach Kathmandu and help analyse DNA samples.
The MEA said a specialised technical team for tunnel rescue reconnaissance had reached Kathmandu a day earlier and began work on Saturday to assess rescue requirements in the affected area. Based on its recommendations, a specialised tunnel rescue team from India, along with necessary equipment, is expected to reach Nepal.
The developments come after devastating flash floods in Nepal that caused widespread destruction and claimed hundreds of lives, including Indian nationals.
Meanwhile, Nepal President Ramchandra Paudel expressed gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu for her concern and the assistance extended by the Indian government following the disaster.
In a message posted by the Office of the President of Nepal on X, Paudel conveyed his appreciation for India’s support and solidarity during the crisis.
He also expressed condolences over the loss of Indian lives in the disaster of August 26, 2026, extending sympathy to the Government and people of India.
The ongoing rescue and identification efforts involve coordination between Indian and Nepalese authorities, with specialised teams being deployed to support operations in the worst-affected areas.
