Punjabi singer-actor Gippy Grewal says his upcoming film ‘Singh Vs Kaur 2’ stands apart from most Punjabi films by bringing comedy, romance, emotion and action together in a full-fledged commercial entertainer.
Speaking exclusively to IANS, Grewal said he was excited about the project and its broad appeal, particularly because Punjabi cinema does not often combine so many commercial elements in a single film.
“It’s a full-fledged commercial film. You’ll get to see comedy, emotion, love story, action, everything,” Grewal said.
“Normally, Punjabi films are rarely made like this,” he added.
The film also marks Grewal’s first collaboration with Shehnaaz Gill. Reflecting on their association, the actor said audiences had enjoyed their earlier film and expressed his excitement about returning with the sequel.
“I’m very excited about this film. ‘Singh Vs Kaur 2’ will be released on September 11. It’s our first time working together. The audience loved our first film. It’s the first film with which the doors of Delhi were opened. It was released here. We are so excited that the film is coming,” Grewal said.
Gill had earlier told IANS that the project was particularly meaningful to her because she had watched the original ‘Singh Vs Kaur’ years ago and hoped to eventually be part of a film like it.
“‘Singh vs Kaur 2’ is very special to me because I still remember watching Singh vs Kaur years ago and thinking, ‘I wish I could be a part of a film like this someday.’ And now, I am actually here, playing Jasneet,” she said.
Gill said playing Jasneet gave her an opportunity to explore romance, comedy and action while attempting things she had not previously done on screen.
Directed by Navaniat Singh, ‘Singh Vs Kaur 2’ features Gippy Grewal and Shehnaaz Gill in the lead roles and is scheduled for worldwide release on September 11, 2026.
The original ‘Singh Vs Kaur’, starring Gippy Grewal, Surveen Chawla, Japji Khaira and Binnu Dhillon, was released on February 15, 2013.
