BJP Tamil Nadu chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy has said there is no objection to singing ‘Tamil Thai Vazhthu’, the Tamil Nadu state song, before the national song and national anthem, asserting that the order of rendition should not become a matter of controversy.
Speaking to IANS, Thirupathy said the state song, national song and national anthem were all important and maintained that the sequence in which they were sung did not matter.
“‘Tamil Thai Vazhthu’, our national song and our national anthem are all equally important. Whether one is sung first, second or third does not matter,” he said.
Thirupathy said there would be no issue if people wanted the Tamil Nadu state song to be sung first, stressing that Tamil Nadu was an integral part of India.
He urged political parties and others not to turn the matter into a controversy and said the important point was that all three should be duly respected and sung.
BJP Questions Assembly Speaker’s Participation in Event
Meanwhile, Thirupathy accused Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar of attempting to promote Christianity, a charge linked to the Speaker’s participation as chief guest at the 5th National March for Life, an anti-abortion rally held in Chennai on August 8 and 9.
Thirupathy alleged that Prabhakar had been supportive of Christianity and sought to promote the religion. He said there was no objection to anyone following their faith but argued that a constitutional office-holder should not use his position to promote his personal religion.
The BJP spokesperson also questioned what he described as the absence of criticism from others over the Speaker’s participation.
“If someone had made a similar statement about the Hindu religion, they would have been branded as communal. But why they are not doing is because they are pseudo secular,” he said.
Thirupathy further criticised Prabhakar’s actions and said Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay should advise the Speaker against conduct that, according to him, could affect the TVK-led government.
