Indore City Congress Committee President Chintu Choukse has approached the Commissioner of the Indore Municipal Corporation seeking permission to hold the programme at Nehru Stadium. The city Congress unit has requested that the stadium be reserved from September 12 to facilitate preparations for the event.
Choukse said a large turnout of students and youth from Indore and neighbouring districts was expected. He said Nehru Stadium had been chosen considering the anticipated scale of participation and its capacity to accommodate attendees.
A meeting regarding the proposed programme was also held at the residence of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Jitu Patwari in Indore.
According to Choukse, the Congress expects around 50,000 students to participate. He said Jabalpur had initially been considered as the venue, but Indore was eventually selected because of its status as an education hub and its ability to accommodate students from different parts of the state.
The proposed interaction is expected to provide students an opportunity to raise concerns related to competitive examination paper leaks, employment opportunities and the financial burden of higher education.
Rahul Gandhi is expected to listen to students’ concerns and engage with them on issues affecting their education and career prospects.
Congress leaders said the multi-day reservation of the stadium would allow organisers to complete necessary formalities, install infrastructure and put safety arrangements in place ahead of the programme.
Once permission is granted by the civic administration, the party is expected to begin detailed preparations covering logistics, crowd management and security.
The proposed event is being viewed by the state Congress as a major youth-focused outreach programme and could provide the party with an opportunity to engage directly with students and young voters in Madhya Pradesh.
