One person was killed and five others were injured, some of them seriously, after several shots were fired at a rave party in Aarau, Switzerland, early Sunday, local media reported.
The incident occurred in the Schachen area of Aarau, near a horse racing track, at around 2.30 a.m. local time. The Aargau Cantonal Police confirmed the casualties and said a large-scale operation had been launched to locate the suspected perpetrators.
“According to preliminary findings, the shooting in the Schachen area of Aarau last night has resulted in one death and five injuries, some of them serious,” the police said.
Police cordoned off a wide area around the horse racing track, swimming pool and sports field and urged members of the public to stay away from the area. The police presence was also increased in Aarau city centre and surrounding areas as a precaution.
Vanessa Rumpold, media spokesperson for the Aargau Cantonal Police, said the shooting took place at the horse racing track, but the circumstances remained unclear, Switzerland-based Blick reported.
Police said a large group of people had fired several shots. The Aargau Cantonal Disaster Response Unit and an army Super Puma helicopter were deployed at the scene as part of the response.
The police said the manhunt for the unidentified perpetrator was underway, while investigators were working to establish the motive and exact circumstances of the shooting.
Due to the ongoing operation, Aarau Swimming Pool was ordered to remain closed until further notice, with authorities asking visitors to avoid the Schachen area.
