Punjab Rice Millers’ Demands to Be Resolved on Priority: Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak has assured rice millers of Gurdaspur district that their key demands related to the upcoming paddy procurement season will be taken up on priority and resolved at the earliest.

The assurance came during a meeting of rice millers from across the district held at Golden Palm Hotel. Representatives of the Rice Millers Association raised various issues concerning the forthcoming paddy procurement season before the Cabinet Minister.

Among the major demands raised were the withdrawal of the one per cent tax levied on rice and ensuring adequate godown storage space before the commencement of paddy procurement. Kataruchak assured the millers that their concerns would be addressed soon.

During the meeting, Ajay Bedi was unanimously elected as the District President of the Gurdaspur Rice Millers Association. All India Rice Millers Association President Tarsem Saini and Punjab Rice Millers Association President Gurdeep Singh Cheema, along with the minister, congratulated Bedi on his election.

Kataruchak also felicitated Bedi on assuming the new responsibility.

The district’s rice millers extended their best wishes to Bedi and expressed confidence that he would effectively represent their concerns and work for the interests of the milling community.

The meeting focused particularly on ensuring that operational issues faced by rice millers are addressed ahead of the upcoming paddy procurement season.
