Punjab Police conducted 595 raids across the state on Saturday as the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign entered its 221st day, resulting in the arrest of 389 people and the recovery of 16 weapons from gangster-linked locations and associates.
The statewide operation is part of the Punjab Police’s campaign to make the state gangster-free. Launched by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ involves district police teams working in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), Punjab.
According to the police, the latest operation takes the total number of arrests made under the campaign to 66,046. Preventive action was also taken against 176 individuals, while seven proclaimed offenders (POs) were apprehended during the day’s operation.
The police have appealed to the public to share information about wanted criminals, gangsters, crime and criminal activities. Information can be provided anonymously through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Police’s anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, also continued for its 546th day. Police teams arrested 65 drug smugglers during the day’s operations and recovered 731 grams of heroin, 10 kg of opium, 268 kg of poppy husk, 140 intoxicant pills and ₹3,500 in drug money.
With the latest arrests, the total number of drug smugglers arrested under the campaign has reached 76,666 in 546 days, according to the police.
As part of its de-addiction efforts, Punjab Police also persuaded six individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment on Saturday.
