Actress Preity Zinta once went to extraordinary lengths to attend an Army party despite being underage, recalling the mischievous childhood episode during her appearance on the television talk show ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal’.
Speaking to host Simi Garewal, Preity recalled that children below 18 were not permitted at Army parties, a restriction that only heightened her curiosity about what happened inside.
She said she was around 12 when she asked her mother if she could attend one such party, only to be told that children below 18 were not allowed.
Determined to get in, the young Preity went to her mother’s cupboard, took a bra and stuffed it with oranges before heading to the club where the party was being held. She then stood outside and attempted to pass herself off as an adult.
Her plan, however, did not last long. The person at the entrance reportedly took one look at her and contacted her father, who was serving as a Major in the Army at the time.
Preity said her mother was furious after learning about the stunt.
“She got really upset with me,” the actress recalled.
Preity has often spoken about her childhood experiences, and the episode offered a glimpse into her mischievous side and her determination to satisfy her curiosity even at a young age.
On the professional front, Preity returned to the big screen with the period drama ‘Batwara 1947’, which also stars Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khushi Hajare and Kanikka Kapur.
The film is believed to be adapted from Asghar Wajahat’s play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai’, whose title conveys the idea that experiencing Lahore is fundamental to a fulfilling life.
‘Batwara 1947’ was released theatrically on August 14.
