Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced that he will lead a march to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on August 4 to submit a petition seeking changes to the Centre’s E20 fuel policy.
Addressing the ‘National Townhall Against E20’ in New Delhi, Kejriwal said over two lakh people had signed an online petition demanding that consumers be given the option to choose between E20 fuel and pure petrol at fuel stations.
“A few days ago, I appealed to people to sign a petition addressed to the Prime Minister. More than two lakh people have signed it online. On August 4 at 12 noon, I will personally take those petitions and march towards the Prime Minister’s residence to submit them,” he said.
Kejriwal said around 100 volunteers would accompany him during the march, adding that those willing to participate should contact him.
He also claimed the event witnessed a large turnout, with the venue packed to capacity and many people watching the proceedings online.
Criticising the Centre’s E20 fuel policy, the former Delhi Chief Minister said the government should provide consumers with the freedom to choose between E20 and pure petrol at petrol pumps.
He also put forward two additional demands, saying the price of E20 fuel should be lower than that of pure petrol and that petrol prices should be reduced to below Rs 84 per litre in view of declining global crude oil prices.
Referring to the Centre’s position on E20 fuel, Kejriwal claimed the government had maintained that the fuel was safe and those opposing it were being criticised. He said concerns raised by citizens regarding the policy should be addressed.
