Travel on the Delhi-Jaipur section of National Highway-48 has become completely barrier-free with the rollout of the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at Shahjahanpur Toll Plaza in Rajasthan, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced on Saturday.
With the latest implementation, all three toll plazas on the Manesar-Jaipur corridor — Daulatpura, Manoharpura and Shahjahanpur — are now equipped with the MLFF system, allowing vehicles to pass through without stopping for toll payments.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said the technology eliminates the need for physical barriers and manual toll collection, reducing waiting time and enabling smoother traffic movement.
The MLFF system uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology along with FASTag-based electronic toll collection to automatically identify vehicles and process user fee payments.
Officials said the system is expected to improve travel efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and lower vehicle emissions caused by congestion at toll plazas.
The government has advised highway users to maintain adequate balance in their FASTag accounts to ensure uninterrupted travel.
In case of insufficient balance, invalid FASTags or non-functional tags, commuters will receive an electronic notice (e-notice) for non-payment of the user fee. The pending toll amount must be cleared within 72 hours of the notice being issued.
Failure to make the payment within the stipulated period will result in a penalty equal to twice the applicable user fee for the vehicle category.
The implementation of MLFF is part of efforts to modernise India’s tolling infrastructure by improving transparency, reducing operational costs and enhancing the overall highway travel experience.
