Punjab Police Registers 54,916 FIRs, Arrests Over 75,000 in 17-Month Anti-Drug Drive

Punjab Police has registered 54,916 FIRs and arrested 75,102 alleged drug smugglers during the 17-month-old anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, recovering 3,472 kg of heroin since the launch of the drive on March 1, 2025.

The campaign was initiated on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, with police teams conducting daily operations across all 28 police districts of the state under the supervision of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav.

Special DGP (Law and Order) Praveen Sinha said that besides heroin, the police have seized 871 kg of opium, 425 quintals of poppy husk, 86 kg of charas, 1,193 kg of ganja, 60 kg of ICE, 60.78 lakh intoxicant tablets and capsules, along with ₹21.64 crore in drug money during the ongoing campaign.

On the 518th day of the operation, police arrested 91 drug smugglers and recovered 20.3 kg of heroin, 15,249 intoxicant tablets and capsules, and ₹3,800 in drug money, officials said.

As part of the de-addiction and rehabilitation efforts under the campaign, police also persuaded 11 individuals to seek treatment for substance abuse.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Police continued its separate campaign ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ against gangsters and criminal networks. On the 193rd day of the drive, police conducted 586 raids, arrested 350 persons and recovered four weapons.

Preventive action was also initiated against 230 individuals, while four proclaimed offenders were arrested during the operation.

Police said citizens can provide information about wanted criminals, gangsters and criminal activities anonymously through the Anti-Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946.
