Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Saturday clarified that there is no ban on wearing religious attire during the upcoming Police Constable Recruitment Examination and urged candidates not to be misled by misinformation circulating on the issue.
In a post on X, Kharge said the state government has made comprehensive arrangements to conduct the recruitment examination in a fair, transparent and well-organised manner while safeguarding the interests of job aspirants.
He said the list of permitted and prohibited items has already been mentioned in the candidates’ hall tickets, and all aspirants should strictly follow the prescribed dress code and examination guidelines.
Clarifying the position on religious attire, the Home Minister said candidates choosing to wear such clothing would be allowed to appear for the examination after completing the mandatory security and identity verification process.
He said such candidates must report to their designated examination centres at least two-and-a-half hours before the commencement of the examination to facilitate security checks.
“There is no restriction on any religious attire. Candidates wearing religious dress will be permitted to write the examination after completing the required security checks,” Kharge said.
He appealed to candidates not to pay attention to rumours or misinformation and encouraged them to approach the examination with confidence.
The clarification comes ahead of the Police Constable Recruitment Examination amid discussions over dress code norms at examination centres. The Karnataka government has maintained that while strict security protocols will be followed, they will not prevent candidates from wearing religious attire during the examination.
