President Droupadi Murmu on Friday congratulated Indian athletes Lovepreet Singh and Seema Kaliramna for their medal-winning performances at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, praising their determination and dedication while expressing hope that they would continue to bring laurels to the country.
Weightlifter Lovepreet Singh secured the silver medal in the men’s +110kg category after delivering a spirited performance. He finished with a combined lift of 388kg, missing the gold by just one kilogram. New Zealand’s David Liti claimed the top spot with a total lift of 389kg.
In a message shared on social media platform X, President Murmu described Lovepreet’s achievement as a reflection of his perseverance, strength and relentless pursuit of excellence. She said his performance had filled every Indian with pride and wished him many more successes in the future.
The President also congratulated discus thrower Seema Kaliramna, who earned a bronze medal in the women’s event with a best throw of 58.65 metres.
Competing under challenging conditions, Seema managed only two valid throws in six attempts, with several of her efforts ending in fouls after the discus struck the side netting. Despite the setbacks, her throw of 58.65 metres proved sufficient to secure a place on the podium.
In her message, President Murmu said Seema’s achievement reflected her perseverance, dedication and hard work. She added that the medal-winning performance would inspire young women across the country to pursue excellence in sports and wished the athlete continued success in representing India on the international stage.
India has continued to add to its medal tally at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, with athletes producing notable performances across multiple disciplines.
