Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in his first meeting with the President since her return from a three-nation State visit to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania.
The President’s Secretariat confirmed the meeting through a post on social media but did not disclose the agenda or details of the discussions.
Such meetings between the Prime Minister and the President are part of the constitutional framework, during which the head of government typically briefs the Head of State on key developments relating to governance, legislative business, policy decisions, parliamentary affairs and other issues of national importance.
The meeting came shortly after Prime Minister Modi chaired the fourth special meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to assess India’s preparedness in light of the continuing conflict in West Asia.
During the CCS meeting, senior officials reviewed measures to ensure uninterrupted supplies of petroleum products, including LPG, LNG and fertilisers, amid concerns over global supply chains. The committee also examined initiatives to expand Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connectivity, strengthen the National Gas Grid, augment LNG import and regasification infrastructure, and accelerate the rollout of City Gas Distribution networks.
The Prime Minister directed officials to continue adopting a coordinated, whole-of-government approach to address challenges arising from the regional conflict. He also called for a unified monitoring mechanism to ensure timely implementation of measures aimed at safeguarding the interests of Indian citizens.
Thursday’s meeting at Rashtrapati Bhavan also assumes significance as Parliament’s Monsoon Session is underway, with the government handling several legislative and administrative matters. Proceedings in both Houses have witnessed repeated disruptions over recent examination paper leak protests, even as the government has introduced amendments providing for stricter action against organised exam fraud.
