Police have launched an investigation after a schoolgirl went missing from the Palpara area under Thaibung Gram Panchayat in Tripura’s Sabroom subdivision after leaving home to attend private coaching classes.
According to the girl’s family, she and another schoolgirl left their respective homes at around 5.30 a.m. on July 30, informing their families that they were heading for private tuition. However, the two students never reached the coaching centre, prompting anxious relatives to begin searching for them.
During the search operation, the guardian of one of the girls traced her to Sabroom railway station. She was rescued from a train shortly before the Agartala-Sealdah Kanchenjunga Express departed.
The second girl, however, remains missing.
Following the incident, the missing student’s family lodged a complaint at Sabroom Police Station. Police have since initiated an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and trace her whereabouts.
According to preliminary findings, investigators suspect the student may have been lured away and taken to another state after allegedly falling into what they described as a “love trap.” Officials, however, said all possible angles are being examined and no final conclusions have been drawn.
As part of the probe, police have recovered a mobile phone from the girl’s family and are analysing her recent communications and movements for possible leads.
The disappearance has sparked concern among residents of the Palpara area, with locals hoping for the student’s safe return. Police have not confirmed her location or announced any arrests in connection with the case.
The incident comes months after a similar case reported in March, when a 12-year-old schoolgirl from the Damdamia Bhumihin Tila area under Sabroom police station limits was reported missing for more than a week, causing widespread concern in the region.
