The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Ahmedabad Customs has seized 240.830 grams of 24-carat gold jewellery valued at approximately ₹35.49 lakh from a woman passenger who arrived from Dubai at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
According to Customs officials, the passenger was intercepted on Thursday after arriving on Emirates Flight EK-538 from Dubai based on passenger profiling.
During a detailed examination, officers allegedly found the woman wearing and concealing 24-carat gold jewellery without valid import documents. The seized items included four gold bangles and a gold chain with a pendant.
The total weight of the recovered jewellery was 240.830 grams, with an estimated market value of ₹35,49,834. The gold was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the attempted smuggling and to determine whether any larger network or accomplices were involved.
The seizure is part of a series of recent gold smuggling detections at Ahmedabad airport.
On July 28, Customs officials seized 244.16 grams of 24-carat gold worth around ₹35.84 lakh from another woman passenger who had arrived from Dubai. In that case, gold paste allegedly concealed by the passenger was recovered and later converted into a gold bar before being seized.
Earlier, on July 16, the Air Intelligence Unit intercepted a woman arriving from Abu Dhabi and recovered 233 grams of 24-carat gold valued at about ₹34.29 lakh, which was allegedly concealed inside her burqa.
In another case on July 7, Customs officers seized 729 grams of gold worth approximately ₹98.78 lakh from a woman passenger arriving from Abu Dhabi. The gold jewellery was allegedly concealed in her handbag and beneath her garments before being detected during examination.
