The first flight from the upcoming Greenfield Airport in Rajasthan’s Kota is expected to take off by December 2027, with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla directing officials to ensure timely completion of the ambitious infrastructure project.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at Parliament House in New Delhi on Thursday, Birla assessed the progress of the Greenfield Airport being developed at Shambhupura in Kota district.
The meeting was attended by Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and the Rajasthan administration.
Officials informed the meeting that construction is progressing steadily, with nearly 80 per cent of the design development phase already completed. Foundation work for the airport has also commenced.
Birla directed the executing agencies to complete all construction work by October 2027 so that adequate time is available for testing, certification and other operational preparations before commercial flight services begin in December 2027.
He emphasised that the project should be completed within the stipulated timeline without compromising quality and instructed officials to resolve any administrative, technical or regulatory hurdles that could delay the work.
To ensure close monitoring, Birla asked the Airports Authority of India to submit detailed progress reports every three months for periodic review.
The Kota Greenfield Airport is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 1,507 crore.
Once operational, the airport is expected to significantly improve air connectivity for the Kota, Bundi and Hadauti regions, while boosting industrial development, education, trade, investment and tourism.
Rajiv Dutta, Officer on Special Duty to the Lok Sabha Speaker, was also present at the review meeting.
