Actor Nitish Bharadwaj, best known for portraying Lord Krishna in the iconic television series Mahabharat, has appealed to Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor to focus on projects that reflect India’s cultural heritage and avoid films like Animal.
Bharadwaj shared his views after praising the upcoming epic film Ramayana, whose poster he posted on Instagram on Thursday. He congratulated the team behind the project and described it as a major contribution to Indian cinema.
In a lengthy social media note, Bharadwaj lauded director Nitesh Tiwari’s vision, the film’s production design, visual effects and music collaboration, while expressing hope that Ramayana would receive global recognition.
Addressing Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Ram in the film, Bharadwaj praised his acting abilities but urged him to take on roles that represent Indian values and traditions.
“Always loved you as an actor but now starts your social responsibility to uphold Bharat’s heritage, values, culture and ethos,” Bharadwaj wrote, adding that he hoped the actor would avoid projects similar to Animal.
Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal became one of the highest-grossing films of 2023 but also faced criticism over its portrayal of violence and alleged misogynistic themes.
Bharadwaj also expressed his hope that audiences would embrace Sai Pallavi as Sita in Ramayana and said he wanted the film to capture the spiritual and cultural essence associated with the epic.
The trailer of Ramayana was unveiled on Thursday and features a VFX-heavy portrayal of the Indian mythological epic. The film is scheduled to release on November 8, 2026.
