UK Lawmakers Express Concern Over Reported Violence in PoK, Urge Diplomatic Intervention

London, July 31, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Several British parliamentarians have voiced concern over reports of escalating violence in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), urging the UK government to press for de-escalation amid allegations of civilian casualties, movement restrictions and a communications blackout in the region.

Bradford MP Imran Hussain, who chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Kashmir, said more than 50 parliamentarians had jointly written to the UK Foreign Secretary seeking diplomatic engagement over the situation.

In a statement shared on social media, Hussain said the lawmakers were deeply concerned by reports of live fire resulting in deaths and injuries. He added that many British Kashmiris were anxious about the safety of relatives in the region and called on the UK government to use diplomatic channels to support an immediate de-escalation and a peaceful resolution through dialogue, while safeguarding the human rights of Kashmiris.

Meanwhile, demonstrations were held in London, where protesters marched from Cumberland Gate to the Pakistani High Commission at Lowndes Square, demanding international attention to the reported developments in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Several other British MPs also expressed concern over the reported situation.

MP Zarah Sultana described reports and videos alleging the use of lethal force against protesters as deeply disturbing. She called for an end to the violence, restoration of communications and independent investigations into the reported incidents, along with accountability for any proven human rights violations.

MP Nadia Whittome alleged that authorities had imposed a severe communications blackout following protests that began in June and urged pressure on Pakistani authorities to end restrictions and halt violence against protesters.

Labour MP Liam Byrne also described reports of live fire against peaceful demonstrators as deeply alarming. Calling the communications blackout and reported human rights abuses unacceptable, he said the APPG on Kashmir had sought urgent discussions with the Pakistan High Commission in London as well as meetings with UK Foreign Office ministers to raise the matter at the highest diplomatic level. Byrne also reiterated the need for a peaceful resolution consistent with long-standing UN commitments while stressing that the immediate priority was to end the violence.
