Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has expressed gratitude to audiences for supporting his latest release Main Vaapas Aaunga, saying the film’s extended theatrical run reflects the power of positive word-of-mouth and renewed interest among viewers in watching cinema on the big screen.
Taking to Instagram, Ali shared a poster celebrating the film’s nearly two-month run in theatres, describing the achievement as a rare milestone for any film.
The filmmaker thanked viewers who connected emotionally with the movie and encouraged others to watch it, crediting them for creating strong word-of-mouth without any external push.
“Main Vaapas Aaunga achieves this today and my first thought is of gratitude towards the audience,” Ali wrote, adding that the response has been a source of encouragement for contemporary filmmakers.
He said the appreciation shown by audiences would remain a lasting inspiration and motivate him to create more engaging films. Ali also acknowledged the contribution of the film’s cast and crew, saying their dedication was rewarded by the audience’s response.
The filmmaker further appreciated the role played by exhibitors and distributors, particularly as the film had not received a strong opening at the box office but went on to achieve an unusual run due to sustained audience support.
Congratulating the Hindi film industry for improved theatre attendance this year, Ali said filmmakers now have the responsibility to create quality films for audiences who are showing renewed enthusiasm for cinema halls.
