India’s Seema Kaliramna secured a bronze medal in the women’s discus throw at the Commonwealth Games 2026, delivering the country’s lone athletics medal of the session as compatriots Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Parul Chaudhary narrowly missed podium finishes in Glasgow.
Seema claimed third place with a best throw of 58.65 metres despite an inconsistent series marked by four foul attempts. After opening with a foul, she registered valid throws of 57.32m and 58.65m before finishing with three successive fouls. Her effort proved sufficient to earn the bronze medal.
India’s Nidhi Rani narrowly missed a medal, finishing fourth with a best throw of 57.10m. Jamaica’s Samantha Hall created history by winning her country’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women’s discus throw, while Canada’s Julia Tunks claimed silver with a throw of 60.67m.
India, however, endured disappointment in other track and field events.
Two-time Asian Games champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor finished fifth in the men’s shot put. The 31-year-old produced his best effort of 20.27m in the third round but was unable to improve on that mark in his remaining attempts. Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi captured the gold medal with a throw of 21.07m, while New Zealand’s Tom Walsh and England’s Scott Lincoln took silver and bronze, respectively.
In the women’s 5,000m final, Asian Games gold medallist Parul Chaudhary ended 13th with a time of 15:08.56. Australia’s Rose Davies won gold in a season-best 14:44.53, edging compatriot Jessica Hull, who secured silver in 14:45.01. Scotland’s Megan Keith claimed bronze with another season-best performance of 14:49.10.
Elsewhere, Canada’s 19-year-old Sheriauna Haas won the women’s 100m T47 title ahead of compatriot Chloe Dunbar, while New Zealand’s Anna Grimaldi settled for bronze.
