The Punjab Government on Saturday transferred financial assistance to 35.5 lakh women under the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, taking the total number of beneficiaries under the scheme to 68.5 lakh, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said.
Addressing a distribution function in Pathankot, Mann said women across Punjab are receiving three months’ instalments together under the scheme, with each beneficiary getting ₹3,000, while Scheduled Caste women beneficiaries are receiving ₹4,500.
The Chief Minister said women already receiving widow, disability and old-age pensions are also being provided additional financial support of ₹1,000 or ₹1,500 for the first time under the initiative.
Mann said 33 lakh women had earlier received the benefit on July 1, while another 35.5 lakh women were covered in the latest transfer. He added that registrations under the scheme are continuing and around five lakh women have enrolled in the last seven days, taking total registrations to 73.5 lakh.
He said newly verified applicants would also receive the benefit in the next disbursement cycle and assured eligible women that no one would be excluded due to the timing of registration.
“This is your rightful entitlement. You will no longer have to depend on anyone else for your own needs or those of your children,” Mann said while addressing beneficiaries.
The Chief Minister said the assistance was being transferred directly into bank accounts through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS), ensuring transparency and eliminating the role of intermediaries. He added that beneficiaries were receiving mobile notifications confirming the transfer.
Mann said the scheme was aimed at strengthening women’s financial independence and providing dignity and self-respect. He added that the government had allocated ₹9,300 crore in the budget for the initiative and expected nearly 97 per cent of women in Punjab to benefit from it.
Under the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, women in Punjab receive ₹1,000 per month, while Scheduled Caste women receive ₹1,500 per month. The current payment covers instalments for July, August and September.
The Chief Minister said registrations remain open at Anganwadi Centres across the state, and eligible women would continue to be included in future disbursement rounds.
Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, Cabinet Ministers Aman Arora, Dr Baljeet Kaur and Lal Chand Kataruchak were among those present at the event.
