PM Modi Inaugurates Viveka Memorial in Mysuru Amid Tight Security

Mysuru, August 1, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mysuru on Saturday to inaugurate the Viveka Memorial at the Ramakrishna Vidyashala, with Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot welcoming him at the helipad.

Chief Minister Shivakumar presented the Prime Minister with a shawl and bouquet as he arrived for the programme. The Prime Minister’s visit prompted extensive security arrangements across the heritage city, with multiple restrictions imposed to ensure smooth movement.

PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre (Viveka Smaraka) at the Ramakrishna Ashrama. The memorial has been built to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s historic visit to Mysuru in 1892, a key phase of his journey across India before his landmark address at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893.

Mysuru witnessed heightened security measures ahead of the Prime Minister’s programme. More than 1,000 police personnel were deployed across the city under the supervision of South Zone Inspector General of Police M.B. Boralingaiah.

The security deployment included senior police officers, inspectors, sub-inspectors, male and female personnel, along with Home Guards. Authorities maintained strict security around the Ramakrishna Ashrama, Oval Grounds, Mysuru Airport and the route designated for the Prime Minister’s convoy.

Traffic restrictions were imposed on several major roads as part of the arrangements for the VVIP movement.

Following the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Modi will visit the Ramakrishna Ashrama School before departing from Mysuru Airport for New Delhi on a special aircraft.
