Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has warned the United States against taking any “adventurous” actions, saying those responsible would face consequences, according to Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency.
Araghchi issued the warning during separate telephone conversations with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, during which they discussed recent developments in the region.
During talks with Munir and Fidan, Araghchi said Iran was fully prepared to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security, adding that Tehran would respond decisively to any act of aggression.
In his conversation with the Saudi foreign minister, Araghchi warned that any hostile action by the United States or Israel, along with any regional support for such moves, would receive a firm and proportionate response from Iran’s armed forces.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also accused Washington of violating a peace memorandum of understanding reached in mid-June, alleging continued US strikes on Iranian targets, restrictions on Iranian ports and commercial shipping, and increased economic pressure.
In a statement, the ministry said Iran would continue to resist what it described as “unlawful aggression” and defend its national independence and interests.
The statements came after renewed exchanges of airstrikes between the United States and Iran following a temporary pause in hostilities. Earlier, Washington had said its military actions were aimed at responding to attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and reducing Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping.
Araghchi had also previously warned Britain against any military cooperation with the United States in strikes against Iran, saying support for what Tehran termed “aggressors” would be unacceptable.
