The Central University of Punjab (CUPB) has bid farewell to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, who completed his tenure on July 31, 2026. Following the completion of his extended term, Senior Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika, has assumed charge as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university.
Prof. Tiwari took charge as the third Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab on August 22, 2020. During his tenure, the university witnessed significant growth in academics, research, infrastructure, innovation and institutional governance.
Under his leadership, the university implemented several initiatives aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, expanded its academic programmes, strengthened research collaborations, promoted innovation and entrepreneurship, and enhanced community engagement activities.
The university achieved several milestones during Prof. Tiwari’s tenure, including securing an A+ Grade accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its second cycle, maintaining a position among the top 100 universities in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), and making its debut in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026.
The institution also recorded growth in research output, funded projects, faculty strength, academic offerings and infrastructure development during this period.
After completing his tenure at CUPB, Prof. Tiwari will take charge as the Vice-Chancellor of Pragjyotishpur University, Guwahati, Assam. University officials, faculty members and staff accorded him a farewell and expressed gratitude for his contribution to the institution’s development.
Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika will continue as Acting Vice-Chancellor until the appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor. He brings over three decades of teaching and research experience and has served as Dean In-charge (Academics) of the university for the past six years, contributing to academic planning and institutional initiatives.
