Alka Nangia Arora, a 1991-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), assumed charge as the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) on Saturday, the Defence Ministry said.
An alumna of Garhwal University, Dehradun, and IIT Roorkee, Arora brings more than three decades of experience in defence financial management and public administration.
According to the Defence Ministry, Arora has held several key positions in the Government of India, including Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Department of Agricultural Research and Education under the Ministry of Agriculture, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Managing Director of Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Limited, and Additional Development Commissioner for Handicrafts under the Ministry of Textiles.
During her career, she has contributed to areas including defence finance, procurement policy, agricultural research, public finance and promotion of handicrafts. She has also undergone advanced training programmes at institutions such as IIM Bangalore and ISB Mohali.
Arora began her career with the Ministry of Defence at Dum Dum Ordnance Factory in Kolkata and subsequently held several important assignments in the Defence Accounts Department.
She has served with all three armed forces in various financial advisory roles, including as Financial Adviser to the Admiral Superintendent of Naval Dockyard, Mumbai; Financial Adviser to Army Eastern Command; head of the Area Accounts Office in Kolkata; Integrated Financial Adviser to Western Air Command and Army Hospital Research & Referral; and Principal Integrated Financial Adviser at Air Force Headquarters.
Before taking over as CGDA, Arora served as Additional and Special Controller General of Defence Accounts at CGDA Headquarters, where she handled policy matters related to audit, information technology and systems, integrated financial advice, and training.
