India’s Arundhati Choudhary delivered a commanding performance to win the women’s 70kg boxing gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026, defeating England’s Chantelle Reid by a unanimous decision in the final on Saturday.
Arundhati controlled the three-round contest from the opening bell and secured a 5-0 unanimous verdict from the judges. All five officials awarded her each round 10-9, highlighting her tactical awareness, sharp counter-punching and consistent pressure throughout the bout.
The Indian boxer never allowed Reid to gain momentum, using her effective combinations, quick movement and disciplined defence to dictate the pace. Four judges scored the contest 30-27 in Arundhati’s favour, while one judge awarded a 29-28 verdict.
The victory capped an outstanding campaign for Arundhati, who maintained top form throughout the tournament and produced another assured performance when the gold medal was at stake.
With this triumph, Arundhati became the fifth Indian boxer to win gold at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, joining Preeti, Jaismine, Sakshi and Priya in India’s remarkable boxing gold medal run.
Earlier in the day, Priya defeated Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh by a 4-1 split decision in the women’s 60kg final, while Sakshi secured the women’s 51kg gold with a 5-0 win over England’s Ruby White.
Jaismine also produced a dominant display to defeat Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh 5-0 in the women’s 57kg final, while Preeti outclassed Canada’s S.S. Delgado by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the women’s 54kg title bout.
Arundhati’s victory further strengthened India’s historic boxing campaign in Glasgow, with the women’s team playing a key role in the country’s record medal haul.
