India’s Narender settled for the silver medal in the men’s 90kg+ boxing event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after going down to England’s Thomas Damar in the heavyweight final on Saturday.
Competing before a partisan home crowd, Damar secured a unanimous 5-0 decision, with the judges scoring the bout 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 30-26 and 30-27 in favour of the English boxer.
Narender fought with determination throughout the contest, matching his opponent in several aggressive exchanges and remaining competitive until the final bell. However, Damar’s tactical superiority proved decisive as the judges awarded him the gold medal.
Despite falling short in the final, Narender’s silver capped an impressive campaign in Glasgow, where he defeated a series of strong opponents to reach the title bout.
His podium finish completed a historic outing for Indian boxing at the Commonwealth Games, with the country finishing the competition with a record 10 medals, including seven gold and three silver.
India’s gold medallists were Ankush Panghal, Sachin Siwach, Arundhati Choudhary, Priya, Sakshi, Preeti and Jaismine, while Lovlina Borgohain and Jadumani Singh joined Narender among the silver medallists.
The seven-gold haul marks India’s best-ever performance in Commonwealth Games boxing, surpassing the previous record set at the Birmingham 2022 Games, where the country won seven medals, including three gold, one silver and three bronze.
With the Glasgow campaign, Indian boxing reinforced its growing stature on the international stage through dominant performances across multiple weight categories.
