FSSAI Suspends Switz Foods Licence Over Food Safety and Hygiene Violations

New Delhi, August 1, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the food business licence of Switz Foods Private Limited after an inspection of its manufacturing facility revealed multiple violations of food safety and hygiene regulations.

The food regulator said the company has been directed to immediately stop all food business operations at the facility until the identified deficiencies are rectified and compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, is restored.

According to FSSAI, the inspection found that food products were being manufactured, packed and stored under unhygienic conditions, creating a potential risk of contamination. The regulator reported deficiencies in cleaning and sanitation practices across several areas of the facility, including the crate washing section, non-vegetarian food reception area and the washing zone near the carrot-cutting machine.

Inspectors also found that several food-contact surfaces and equipment, including machinery, crates, trays, trolleys, moulds and heated kettles, were not properly cleaned or maintained. The inspection team reported water leakage from air-conditioning pipelines above the product storage area and found the crate-washing equipment non-functional.

The facility was also found to have rusted and corroded equipment, inadequate lighting and ventilation, and improper storage practices involving food materials, chemicals and personal belongings.

FSSAI further highlighted concerns over pest infestation, including the presence of flies, mosquitoes and fruit flies, along with cobwebs, damp walls, peeling paint, damaged floor tiles and oil residue inside the premises.

The regulator said the facility also failed to maintain proper segregation between vegetarian and non-vegetarian products, as well as between semi-finished and finished goods. Raw materials and intermediate products were reportedly found without date markings, while a ready-to-eat chicken sandwich lacked mandatory labelling details.

FSSAI said Switz Foods will not be permitted to restart operations until all shortcomings are addressed and the facility fully complies with food safety standards.
