Actor Sunny Deol experienced a nostalgic reunion with filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi at Jaipur’s Rambagh Palace, the location where a significant chapter in their cinematic journey began decades ago.
The actor-director duo recently returned to the historic venue for the promotion of their upcoming film Batwara 1947. The visit brought back memories of how Santoshi’s narration of Ghayal led to the film getting support from Sunny’s father and veteran actor Dharmendra.
Sharing a video from Rambagh Palace on Instagram, Sunny recalled that he had strong faith in Santoshi’s script but initially struggled to find producers willing to back the project.
According to Sunny, Dharmendra was shooting for Batwara in Jaipur in 1988 when Santoshi narrated the complete story of Ghayal to him at Rambagh Palace. After hearing the narration, Dharmendra agreed to produce the film.
Sunny said the moment remained special because his father not only supported the film but also appreciated his belief in the story.
“Papa was shooting for Batwara in 1988 in Jaipur and staying at Rambagh Palace. Raj gave him the complete narration of Ghayal, and the moment it ended, Papa said yes,” Sunny wrote in his social media post.
Reflecting on the connection between the past and present, Sunny noted that he had returned to the same city years later for the promotions of Batwara 1947, describing it as a memorable full-circle moment.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan under Aamir Khan Productions, Batwara 1947 features Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khushi Hajare and Kanikka Kapur in key roles.
