A 15-year-old girl, who was reportedly booked over alleged objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest at Jantar Mantar, on Saturday said she was grateful for the Prime Minister’s decision to forgive her, describing it as a “second life”.
The girl, a Class 10 student, was speaking to IANS after Prime Minister Modi, in a video message shared on his official Instagram account on Friday, said he wanted to forgive children who had made offensive remarks against him and his late mother.
The minor claimed that she was encouraged by YouTubers present during a protest organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) to speak on the paper leak issue. She said she was told that her remarks would be covered under freedom of expression and that the video would not be uploaded.
Admitting that her comments were wrong, she said she had apologised and remained sorry for the language used against the Prime Minister.
“I am very happy that PM Modi has forgiven me. It is a very big thing for me. In a way, I have got a second life,” she said.
The girl, however, alleged that a police case was registered against her using incorrect details, including her name, age and address. She claimed that she was facing online threats after her identity was allegedly revealed.
She alleged that she had received threatening messages from unknown numbers and appealed for protection, saying she was unable to cope with the situation.
The minor’s mother also condemned the threats against her daughter, while acknowledging that the remarks made by the girl were inappropriate. She alleged that abusive comments and threats against a child were unacceptable.
The mother requested security assistance and shelter, saying the safety of her daughter and family had become a concern.
The developments followed protests at Jantar Mantar over alleged examination paper leaks, during which the remarks against the Prime Minister were reportedly made.
