Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grand-nephew Chandra Kumar Bose on Monday resigned from the Trinamool Congress, ending his association with the party less than four months after joining.
In a resignation letter addressed to Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, Bose cited personal reasons for his decision to quit the party’s primary membership with immediate effect.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the All India Trinamool Congress with immediate effect, due to personal reasons. I wish you and the AITC all the very best in all its future endeavours,” Bose wrote.
Bose had joined the Mamata Banerjee-led party on April 12 at Trinamool Bhavan ahead of the state Assembly elections after leaving the BJP. At the time, he had described his earlier decision to join the BJP as a “mistake”.
Before joining the Trinamool Congress, Bose had expressed dissatisfaction with the BJP following a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing and questioned why his citizenship was being examined despite his association with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s family.
Bose’s exit comes amid internal developments within the Trinamool Congress, where political differences have reportedly led to a split, with a section of legislators moving towards a rebel faction led by Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee continues to lead the original faction of the party.
Rather than joining either side, Bose decided to leave the organisation.
Bose had entered active electoral politics in 2016 by joining the BJP in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a rally in Howrah. He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Kolkata Dakshin as a BJP candidate but lost to Trinamool Congress nominee Mala Roy.
After the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Bose gradually distanced himself from the BJP and remained away from active politics following the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.
