Punjab Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Monday reviewed preparations for the year-long celebrations marking the 650th Parkash Purab of Guru Ravidass Ji and directed government departments to ensure smooth arrangements for devotees and participants across the state.
Chairing a high-level meeting, Sond was informed that a series of religious, cultural, educational and public outreach programmes are being organised from July to November as part of the commemorative celebrations.
The meeting was attended by MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal, Punjab Heritage and Tourism Development Board advisor Deepak Bali, members of the expert panel and representatives from religious and academic institutions.
Officials informed the meeting that seminars and workshops on the life, philosophy and teachings of Guru Ravidass Ji are being organised in universities across Punjab. Special Kirtan Samagams are also being held at various locations to spread the message of equality, social justice and universal brotherhood.
As part of the celebrations, Guru Ravidass Ji’s Bagichis are being developed on 650 acres of land across Punjab. A plantation drive involving 6.50 lakh saplings and distribution of 6.50 lakh commemorative flags are also underway. District-level “Run for Equality” marathons and cycle rallies are among the other planned activities.
The minister was informed that four Shobha Yatras will be organised from Varanasi, Faridkot, Bathinda and Jammu to Sri Khuralgarh Sahib during the first week of October.
A three-day state-level function will be held at Sri Khuralgarh Sahib from October 9 to 11. The event will include exhibitions on Guru Ravidass Ji’s life, Katha and Kirtan Darbars, Sant Sammelans, conferences on his Bani, Begumpura Samagams and 3D projection shows at Minar-e-Begumpura.
Reviewing the arrangements, Sond directed departments to coordinate closely and ensure proper facilities for devotees, including accommodation, sanitation, drinking water, transportation, security, traffic management and medical services.
The Cabinet Minister said the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was committed to celebrating the occasion in a dignified and memorable manner. He added that the celebrations would help spread Guru Ravidass Ji’s message of equality, compassion, fraternity and social harmony among people, especially the younger generation.
He also instructed officials to regularly monitor preparations and ensure that all programmes are conducted smoothly for devotees arriving from across the country.
