Security agencies on Monday launched a detailed inspection of the Red Fort area after the Delhi Mayor’s Office received an email threatening multiple bomb blasts at the historic monument on August 15, ahead of Independence Day celebrations.
After receiving the threat message, the Mayor’s Office alerted the Delhi Police and other security agencies. Police teams, bomb disposal squads and other security personnel immediately reached the Red Fort and carried out an extensive sanitisation and search operation.
Delhi Police sources said security arrangements around the monument had been strengthened and an investigation had been initiated to identify the sender and trace the origin of the email.
Officials said security agencies were examining the contents of the message and gathering technical details related to the email account used to issue the threat.
This is the second such threat targeting the Red Fort in recent weeks. On July 11, a similar alert had triggered a major security operation after a threat was received through the Mumbai Police Control Room. The area was thoroughly checked, but no suspicious object or explosive material was found, and the threat was later declared a hoax.
According to police, the earlier threat originated from a phone call in which the caller allegedly claimed that the Red Fort would be blown up. The information was subsequently shared with Delhi Police, following which security measures were activated.
The latest alert comes ahead of the 80th Independence Day celebrations, during which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15.
The authorities have also invited citizens to share suggestions and ideas for the Prime Minister’s Independence Day address through the MyGov platform, with submissions open until August 12.
