Punjab CM Mann Targets Congress Over Internal Rift, Says Party Focused on Infighting

Chandigarh, August 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday criticised the Congress over its internal differences, saying the party was engaged in factional battles and had lost focus on issues concerning the state.

Speaking to IANS, Mann said the Congress was occupied with leadership struggles and internal disputes. He alleged that the party’s focus was on positions rather than public concerns.

“Good luck to the Congress for its ongoing fight. They keep fighting for positions and chairs,” Mann said, while making allegations about internal disagreements within the opposition party.

The Chief Minister accused the Congress of promoting “dealers instead of leaders” and referred to disputes within the party in Sangrur, Barnala and Mansa. He questioned allegations that his government was behind developments within the Congress, saying the party should address its own internal issues.

Mann also referred to criticism faced by Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel during his visit to Punjab, including reported protests by some party workers.

“The Congress is busy with its infighting and does not care about Punjab. We are here to work for Punjab,” he said.

On allegations of examination paper leaks in Punjab, Mann denied that any paper leak had taken place and accused the BJP of attempting to damage the image of his government.

He said the issue involved cases of digital cheating and claimed that action had been taken against those responsible.

“There was a minor issue related to cheating. Digital cheating was taking place, and action was taken against those involved,” Mann said.

The Chief Minister also commented on the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections but did not make any specific prediction, saying, “Let’s see who all will lose.”

Meanwhile, differences within the Punjab Congress have recently become more visible, with former Chief Minister and MP Charanjit Singh Channi meeting suspended former MLA Madan Lal Jalalpur. The move was seen as a political message amid ongoing factional tensions within the state unit.

At a Congress workers’ meeting in Barnala, supporters of Channi also raised slogans in his favour in the presence of party General Secretary-in-Charge Bhupesh Baghel and Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.
