Imam-ul-Haq Suffers Calf Strain, Doubtful for Remainder of Lord’s Test Against England

Lord’s, August 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq is doubtful for the remainder of the second Test against England at Lord’s after suffering a low-grade strain to his left calf while fielding on the opening day.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Friday that Imam sustained the injury during Day 1 on August 27. Scans later diagnosed the low-grade calf strain, and the batter is receiving treatment under the supervision of the Pakistan medical team.

“Pakistan opening batter Imam-ul-Haq sustained a strain to his left calf muscle while fielding on the opening day of the second Test against England at Lord’s,” the PCB said in a statement.

The board added that Imam’s participation in the remainder of the match would depend on his recovery following treatment.

Imam spent time off the field during the evening session on the first day and did not come out to open Pakistan’s innings on Day 2 after England were bowled out for 290 in the first session.

Shan Masood, the former Pakistan Test captain, opened alongside Azan Awais in Imam’s absence. Pakistan cannot bring in a replacement for an ordinary injury during the Test, with substitute provisions applying only in cases involving concussion.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam had won the toss and opted to bowl, with the visitors’ attack making a strong start. Mohammad Abbas claimed four wickets and Mohammad Ali took three, while Khurram Shahzad picked up one as England were restricted to 248/9 at stumps on the opening day. Abbas also reached the milestone of 900 first-class wickets during his four-wicket haul.

England lost openers Ben Duckett for 17 and Emilio Gay for eight, while captain Joe Root and vice-captain Harry Brook were dismissed for four and 15 respectively.

Jordan Cox top-scored with a fighting 55, while Jamie Smith made 61, Gus Atkinson contributed 45 and Josh Tongue scored 30 to help England reach 290.

Imam’s availability for the remainder of the Test will depend on how quickly he recovers from the calf injury.
