Rupnagar Police have arrested four alleged members of an ATM theft gang in two separate cases and recovered two vehicles and equipment allegedly used in the offences, police said on Saturday.
The arrests were made under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Rupnagar Maninder Singh and the supervision of Superintendent of Police (Detective) Palwinder Singh Cheema.
In the first case, police arrested two accused in connection with an attempt to steal an HDFC Bank ATM on Sugar Mill Road in Morinda during the intervening night of August 24 and 25.
According to police, the accused uprooted the ATM and attempted to drag it away by tying it with a rope to a Swift car bearing registration number PB-46-AA-3868. However, police action prevented them from extracting cash from the ATM, following which the accused allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled.
A case, FIR No. 111 dated August 25, 2026, was registered at Morinda police station under Sections 331(4), 305 and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Police said CCTV footage, technical assistance and intelligence inputs helped identify and arrest Simranjit Singh alias Abhi, 19, of Tarn Taran, and Kulwinder Singh alias Kinda alias Kulla, 20, of Moga, on August 26. A Swift car, iron hammer, axe and rope were recovered from them. The two accused were produced before a court and taken on police remand for further investigation.
In another case, police arrested two men for allegedly attempting to steal the Bank of Baroda ATM at Jawahar Market in Nangal during the intervening night of August 11 and 12.
A case, FIR No. 149 dated August 16, 2026, was registered at Nangal police station. During the investigation, CCTV footage and technical inputs led police to arrest Amandeep Singh alias Aman, 25, of Faridkot, and Armandeep Singh alias Mana, 21, of Bathinda, along with a Scorpio bearing registration number PB-04-AG-1873 on August 16.
Both accused are currently lodged in District Jail, Rupnagar.
SP (Detective) Palwinder Singh Cheema said police teams were activated and checkpoints established immediately after receiving information about the incidents.
He warned that attempts to become wealthy quickly through crime ultimately lead to imprisonment, adding that Rupnagar Police would take firm action against criminal elements and maintain law and order in the district.
