Mumbai, August 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News) — Mohammad Shariful Islam, the accused in the stabbing case involving Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, approached a Mumbai court on Friday seeking permission to plead guilty.
The accused, a Bangladeshi national who is currently in judicial custody, submitted an application expressing his willingness to plead guilty and sought leniency from the court, his lawyer Vipul Dushing told IANS.
The court has sought the prosecution’s response to the application and adjourned the matter to September 11.
Earlier this month, Additional Sessions Judge G.P. Deshmukh framed charges against Islam under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for robbery involving the use of a deadly weapon, voluntarily causing grievous hurt and house trespass. He has also been charged under relevant provisions of the Foreigners Act and the Passport (Entry into India) Rules.
At the time the charges were framed, the accused had pleaded not guilty.
The incident took place in the early hours of January 16, 2025, when Saif was allegedly attacked by an intruder at his residence in Bandra. The actor suffered multiple stab wounds and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Doctors later said Saif had reached the hospital with a knife lodged near his spine. He had sustained six injuries during the confrontation, including two deep wounds to his left hand and neck.
Police launched a manhunt following the attack and arrested the accused two days later.
The case subsequently triggered widespread discussion on social media over security and the vulnerability of high-profile personalities to violent crimes.
