Actress Kajol has previously spoken warmly about her mother and veteran actress Tanuja, describing her as a “fabulous” performer and one of the most spontaneous actors she has worked with.
During an appearance on the chat show Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, Kajol was asked by host Farooq Sheikh about Tanuja’s strengths and weaknesses as an actress and how she rated her mother’s work.
Kajol responded with admiration, calling Tanuja an “absolutely fabulous actress” and saying she considered her the most spontaneous actress she knew.
Reflecting on their first experience of sharing screen space, Kajol said she felt Tanuja was “worlds ahead” of her as an actor. She added that although she had grown as a performer, she still considered her mother ahead of her in terms of talent and spontaneity.
Kajol also said that working with Tanuja had made her realise the difference between their respective acting abilities at the time.
The mother-daughter duo first appeared together in Kajol’s debut film Bekhudi in 1992, in which Tanuja played the role of Kajol’s mother.
Kajol subsequently established herself as one of Hindi cinema’s leading actresses, delivering acclaimed and commercially successful performances in films including Baazigar, Gupt, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Fanaa and My Name Is Khan.
Tanuja, meanwhile, has enjoyed a long career in Hindi and Bengali cinema and is regarded as one of the notable actresses of her generation.
