Veteran actor Anupam Kher has expressed deep anguish over the devastation caused by the sudden flash floods in Nepal, offering prayers for those who lost their lives and urging the international community to extend support to the affected people.
Kher shared a video and a note on Instagram, describing the scenes emerging from the flood-hit areas as horrifying and heartbreaking. He expressed solidarity with families who lost loved ones and people whose homes and livelihoods were destroyed.
“I pray for Nepal! Deeply saddened and horrified by the devastation caused by the sudden floods in Nepal. Lives lost. Families torn apart. Homes washed away. Helpless animals caught in the destruction. It is heartbreaking to imagine how, in a few moments, everything someone calls their own can disappear,” the ‘Tanvi the Great’ actor wrote.
Kher, 71, said he hoped those still awaiting assistance would be reached and those searching for missing relatives would find them safe.
“I hope the world comes together to help—with compassion, with urgency, and with whatever each of us can give. In this time of unimaginable sorrow, let us make sure they do not feel alone,” he added.
In the accompanying video, Kher said the destruction had affected human lives, property, animals and agricultural fields. He said words were inadequate to comfort people who had lost family members and called for emotional and humanitarian support for those affected in Nepal and Tibet.
“The only thing one can do individually is to lend emotional support and also request the rest of the world to come forward and to help people of Nepal, Tibet,” he said, while also expressing sympathy for those affected in China.
Kher said the Indian government was making efforts to assist those affected by the disaster.
Several celebrities have also expressed concern and offered prayers for victims of the floods.
The flash floods that struck Nepal on August 26 have killed at least 270 people, while more than 800 remain reported missing. The disaster caused extensive destruction in areas along the Tibet border, including villages and project sites.
The Nepal Army has deployed 14 helicopters along with specialised disaster-response teams for ongoing rescue and relief operations.
