Jan Suraaj candidate Prashant Kishor has maintained a strong lead in the Bankipur Assembly by-election after 24 rounds of vote counting, with trends showing him ahead of his nearest rival by 13,868 votes.
Kishor has secured 48,343 votes so far, while BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha is in second position with 34,566 votes. RJD candidate Rekha Gupta is placed third with 11,197 votes.
The continuing lead has led to celebrations among Jan Suraaj supporters, with workers gathering at the party camp and celebrating the trend with music and colours.
In contrast, the atmosphere at the Bihar BJP office in Patna remained subdued as counting trends moved against the party candidate. BJP workers, who have traditionally gathered at the state headquarters to celebrate Bankipur results, appeared disappointed with the latest figures.
Bankipur has long been considered a BJP stronghold. The seat fell vacant after former MLA Nitin Nabin resigned, leading to the by-election.
The contest holds political significance as it marks the first Assembly by-election in Bihar after Samrat Chaudhary became Chief Minister. The BJP camp is also closely watching the outcome after the NDA faced a setback in a recent Legislative Council by-election.
Counting is being conducted in 31 rounds, with 24 rounds completed so far. Kishor has remained ahead in every round counted and has continued to increase his margin.
Polling for the Bankipur by-election was held on July 30. The final result will be declared after completion of all counting rounds, but the sustained lead has already created a major shift in the political atmosphere surrounding the constituency.
