US President Donald Trump has claimed that an agreement has been reached for the complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups operating in Gaza, describing it as a major step towards reshaping the territory’s future governance and security.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the understanding was reached through the efforts of what he referred to as the “Board of Peace”. According to him, the agreement envisions Gaza eventually being administered by a new Palestinian government that would work closely with the Board of Peace to support the Palestinian population.
Trump said the proposed arrangement would also address Israel’s security concerns by ensuring that Gaza is no longer used as a base for militant attacks.
He stated that the implementation would take place in phased stages. As disarmament progresses, Israeli forces would gradually withdraw from Gaza, while an International Stabilisation Force, working alongside a newly established Palestinian police force, would assume responsibility for maintaining security in the territory.
The US President credited Egypt, Qatar and Turkiye with helping broker the agreement as mediators.
However, there has been no official confirmation from Hamas regarding the reported agreement.
The announcement came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Trump in Washington. According to Israeli officials, the meeting was “very positive” and focused on regional security issues, including the conflict with Iran, negotiations involving Lebanon and efforts to expand the Abraham Accords.
Netanyahu was also expected to brief Trump on intelligence concerning alleged Iranian activities at the underground Pickaxe Mountain facility, believed to be linked to Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Trump, however, publicly expressed displeasure over Netanyahu’s decision to speak openly about the matter before discussing it privately with him.
The US President has indicated support for renewed diplomatic engagement with Iran, while Israel has continued to advocate sustained pressure on Tehran.
