Actor Jimmy Sheirgill has said that his upcoming streaming series Operation Safed Sagar was not a project he selected, but one that found him to bring a significant wartime story to audiences.
Speaking to IANS along with co-stars Siddharth, Arnav Bhasin and Mihir Ahuja, Jimmy said projects based on important subjects often come with a sense of responsibility, and an actor’s role is to work sincerely on the character assigned to them.
The series is based on the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar, the air operation conducted during the 1999 Kargil War to support Indian Army operations against Pakistani forces occupying positions in the Kargil sector along the Line of Control.
The operation marked the first major use of air power in Jammu and Kashmir after the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
Jimmy said the script was the first factor that attracted him to the series. He added that understanding the character and imagining oneself in that situation becomes an important part of preparing for such roles.
The actor also praised the creative team behind the project, saying the director’s involvement and vision gave him confidence in the story. He highlighted the extensive preparation involved in making the series, including the detailed construction of the cockpit setup, which took nearly a month before filming began.
Jimmy said Operation Safed Sagar was a unique project and noted that it would be among the first such attempts by Netflix to present this kind of story.
The series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on August 7.
