A special court in Jaipur has sentenced former Madhya Pradesh Police Additional Inspector General (AIG) Anil Mishra to life imprisonment after convicting him in a case involving the rape of a woman and the sexual assault of her minor daughter under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The judgment was delivered by the Court of the Special Judge, POCSO Act Cases No. 2, Jaipur Metropolitan, following the completion of the trial.
The court awarded Mishra life imprisonment for the offence of rape committed against the woman. It also sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine for sexually assaulting the victim’s minor daughter under the relevant provisions of law.
According to the prosecution, the case originated from a complaint lodged by the woman at the Women’s Police Station (South) in Jaipur on July 11, 2014. Following registration of the FIR, investigators collected documentary and oral evidence before filing a charge sheet in the competent court.
During the trial, the prosecution examined witnesses and produced documentary evidence to substantiate the charges. After evaluating the material on record and hearing submissions from both the prosecution and the defence, the Special POCSO Court found the accused guilty.
In its judgment, the court observed that the convict had held a senior position in the police force and was entrusted with protecting citizens, but had instead misused his official position and influence. The court noted that the gravity of the offences warranted stringent punishment.
The verdict marks the conclusion of a case that remained under trial for over a decade and underscores the legal system’s commitment to ensuring accountability in offences involving crimes against women and children through due process of law.
