Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai on Thursday reflected on his remarkable journey in Hindi cinema, saying that every phase of life brings fresh purpose and renewed creative energy as he looked back at decades of filmmaking through a nostalgic social media post.
Sharing a collage featuring posters of his landmark films, Ghai penned a reflective message expressing optimism about the future. He wrote that while “soldiers change” and “the command changes,” every new dawn introduces new passion and a new direction. Extending his wishes to his production house, Mukta Arts, he added that it continues to reinvent itself with every new beginning.
The collage traced Ghai’s directorial career from Kalicharan (1976) through a string of memorable films including Vishwanath, Gautam Govinda, Karz, Krodhi, Vidhaata, Hero, Meri Jung, Karma, Ram Lakhan, Saudagar, Khalnayak, Trimurti, Pardes, Taal, Yaadein, Kisna, Black & White, Yuvvraaj and Kaanchi.
Several of these films have gone on to achieve iconic status in Hindi cinema. Karz became a cult classic for its reincarnation-based storyline and memorable soundtrack, while Hero launched Jackie Shroff as a leading star. Meri Jung further strengthened Anil Kapoor’s standing as a leading actor, and Karma emerged among the biggest commercial successes of 1986.
Ghai continued his successful run with films such as Ram Lakhan, Saudagar, which reunited screen legends Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar after more than three decades, and Khalnayak, one of the defining Bollywood films of the 1990s.
His later works, including Pardes and Taal, also earned widespread appreciation, with Taal particularly remembered for A.R. Rahman’s acclaimed music. While films such as Yaadein, Kisna, Black & White, Yuvvraaj and Kaanchi received mixed responses, Ghai’s contribution to Hindi cinema continues to be regarded as one of the industry’s most influential directorial legacies.
