The Odisha government on Friday carried out a major reshuffle of six senior IPS officers, assigning them new responsibilities across key police and intelligence wings of the state.
According to a notification issued by the Home Department, 2003-batch IPS officer Himansu Kumar Lal, who was serving as Inspector General of Police, Northern Range, Sambalpur, has been appointed IG of Police, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Bhubaneswar, with additional responsibility for the Special Task Force (STF).
Satyabrat Bhoi, a 2004-batch officer and currently IG of Police, Northern Central Range (NCR), Talcher, has been posted as IG of Police, Intelligence.
Jai Narayan Pankaj, a 2005-batch IPS officer and former IG of Police, Intelligence, will take charge as IG of Police, Southern Range, Brahmapur. He will replace 2007-batch officer Niti Shekhar, who has been transferred as IG of Police (Provisioning) at the State Police Headquarters.
The government has also appointed 2009-batch officer Charan Singh Meena, who was serving as DIG (Provisioning), as DIG of Police, Northern Range, Sambalpur.
Ashish Kumar Singh, a 2010-batch IPS officer returning to the Odisha cadre after Central deputation, has been appointed DIG of Police, Northern Central Range, Talcher. He will additionally serve as Principal of the Police Training College (PTC), Anugul.
The reshuffle comes days after CID, Crime Branch DGP Vinaytosh Mishra took charge as the interim head of the state police, with additional responsibility as DGP, Odisha Police. Mishra assumed the additional charge on August 16 following the retirement of former DGP Y.B. Khurania.
On Friday, Mishra chaired a high-level review meeting on the state’s law-and-order situation. Discussions covered sensitive areas, major crimes and measures to strengthen crime control across Odisha.
